Hi Stephen, zumindest konnten sie keine Bedeutung in einem irgendwie übertragenen Sinn erkennen. Suzanne Barnhill wrote: Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22nun%27s+pocket%22) is very silent on this, and the few hits seem to point to a variety of possibilities: Hit #4 is obviously quite literal (in a metaphorical sort of way): "money didn't go into the nun's pocket" meaning that the nun didn't take the money for herself). I think one meaning of "nun's pocket" is a separate sort of purse worn on a strap around the waist (like a "fanny pack" or "waist pack") presumably because nun's habits didn't have pockets (though I think they certainly do). This meaning is seen (I think) in hit #3. Hit #5 suggests that a nun's pocket would be quite small, not large enough to hold anything (because the nun had no personal possessions). Hit #6 also appears to be even more literal. Hits #1 and #2 seem to be about the same person, and I suspect that they're actually literal as well. Jay Freedman wrote: With two grandchildren recently having passed through that stage and another about to enter it, I think I'm qualified to answer: It seemed like a good idea at the time. <g> With soup available, and a (possibly inattentive) nun nearby, the combination of the items might well prove "amusing" to a two-year-old. -- Gruß Helmut Weber[ Auf dieses Posting antworten ]
