Ergänzend zum schon Gesagten:

Also trotzdem mal "chattr -ia $file" probieren, *obwohl* sich die Attribute
mit lsattr nicht auslesen lassen [1].

[1] Geht aus dieser Quelle nicht hervor, aber ich bin beim Googeln über
einen Fall gestolpert wo sich die Attribute nicht auslesen, aber trotzdem
ändern liessen.
